Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Origine mobile application and related services (“Service”) provided by Origine (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By downloading, installing, or using Origine, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Description of Service

Origine is a personal coffee journal application that allows you to:

• Scan coffee bag labels using your device's camera and optical character recognition
• Build and maintain a personal library of coffee entries with details such as roaster, origin, tasting notes, and ratings
• Sync your coffee library across devices via cloud storage
• Export your coffee data

2. Account Registration

To use certain features of Origine, you must create an account. When registering, you agree to:

• Provide accurate and complete information
• Maintain the security of your account credentials
• Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account
• Accept responsibility for all activity that occurs under your account

You may register using your email address or through a supported social sign-in provider (Apple or Google). Each person may maintain only one account.

3. Free and Pro Tiers

Origine offers two tiers of service:

• Free tier — includes up to 5 coffee bag scans per calendar month, with full access to your coffee library, ratings, and notes
• Pro tier — includes unlimited scans and all features of the Free tier

We reserve the right to modify the features included in each tier. If we make material changes that reduce the functionality of a tier you are paying for, we will provide reasonable notice.

4. Payments and Subscriptions

Pro tier subscriptions are processed through Stripe. By subscribing, you agree to:

• Pay the subscription fee at the rate displayed at the time of purchase
• Authorize recurring charges until you cancel your subscription

You may cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. Refunds for subscriptions purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store are governed by the respective store's refund policy.

5. Your Content

You retain full ownership of all content you create in Origine, including coffee entries, ratings, notes, and images (“Your Content”).

By using the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to store, process, and transmit Your Content solely for the purpose of providing and improving the Service. This license terminates when you delete Your Content or your account.

We do not claim any ownership rights over Your Content and will not use it for advertising, marketing, or any purpose unrelated to providing the Service.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its related systems
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
• Scrape, harvest, or collect data from the Service through automated means
• Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service
• Circumvent usage limits or security measures
• Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with any entity

7. Intellectual Property

The Origine name, logo, visual design, and application code are owned by us and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not use our branding, trademarks, or design assets without prior written permission.

Your Content belongs to you. We make no claim to it, as described in Section 5.

8. Privacy

Your privacy matters to us. Please review our Privacy Policy to understand how we collect, use, and protect your information. The Privacy Policy is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Specifically:

• OCR accuracy — the optical character recognition feature is provided as a convenience. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of scanned data. You should review and correct any automatically extracted information.
• Availability — we strive to maintain reliable service but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or circumstances beyond our control.
• Data integrity — while we take reasonable measures to protect your data, we cannot guarantee against data loss. We recommend regularly exporting your coffee library.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, use, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the Service.

Our total liability for any claim related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or fifty US dollars ($50), whichever is greater.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted by law.

11. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time by deleting your account through the app. Upon deletion, all your data will be permanently removed from our servers as described in our Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you violate these Terms, with or without notice. In the case of a minor or first-time violation, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you and give you an opportunity to correct the issue before termination.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, where practicable, notify you through the app or by email.

Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the changes, you should stop using the Service.

13. General Provisions

• Governing law — these Terms are governed by applicable law, without regard to conflict of law principles.
• Severability — if any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full effect.
• Entire agreement — these Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.
• Waiver — our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of that provision.
